Christmas Carol 2023 and a note from the director!!!

This November and December, 2023, I will be directing the YPPC version of  “A Christmas Carol.” It is a stage adaptation of Charles Dickens book with 19th century carols and original music by Ty Stephens and Marilyn Olde. The details are not finalized, but I intend to start rehearsals on November 9th. Dress rehearsal and performances will be either December 8th, 9th and 10th or December 21st, 22nd and 23trd. This will depend on cast availability. The part of Scrooge is cast. My grandson, Elias Stephens will be playing that role. Some other roles are tentatively cast, once availability is known. Younger roles will be cast with people who sign up for the fall classes. If you are interested in being in this production of “A Christmas Carol” please email me. (jeffryns@gmail.com) Also if you know other YPPC Alums who might be interested in being in this production or coming to see it, please let them know or tell me and I will email them. For the most part, retirement for me has been a difficult decision. I love my job. But I will not live forever and I’m getting very forgetful, and I know Jessica is the right person to take over. She will be a great director with years of experience, a wonderful family and a love of young people, and she will love the job as I have in spite of all the paperwork.

Creating a safe space for triangle young people to explore the joy of theater for 35 years!

Young People’s Performing Company is a safe space for students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin or gender identity to have a meaningful experience in the theatrical and dramatic arts. It is not our mission to produce the most technically impressive performances, but to ensure that any young person who wants it can have the experience of being on stage.

For more than 35 years, YPPC has created a unique theatrical home for thousands of young people and has been graciously granted the class, rehearsal and performance space to do so by the Durham Arts Council building at 120 Morris St. in downtown Durham N.C.
