Master’s Company

The Masters Company is an auditioned company of 10th, 11th and 12th graders who have a serious commitment to theater arts and to YPPC. 10th graders also need to have had at least one year of acting classes at YPPC, preferably in the Apprentice class. During the school year, in the WTVD theatre, we usually present a one-act family audience play for Centerfest, 2-3 full length productions and a production of student directed one-act plays, usually in the Spring. There is no fee for membership in the Masters Company, but members are expected to participate in three or more productions during the school year or two productions and the Summer Music Theater Camp, for which they pay a reduced fee. Masters Company members are expected to be on time for rehearsals, meet line deadlines, help with technical duties for Masters plays and contribute 10 hours of work to YPPC, which usually involves helping during the production week of one of the younger groups shows.  We generally rehearse Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons, although this may change depending upon the needs of the production. The regular Thursday rehearsal time is from 6:30-8:30PM to allow new drivers to get home safely. Dress rehearsals 6:00-9:00PM. We usually rehearse on Saturdays from 3:30-5:30 or 6:00PM although this may change depending upon the needs of the production.

Auditions for new members this year will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 19th and 20th between 2:00PM and 4:30PM by appointment. Those interested should prepare two memorized monologues showing emotional or stylistic diversity. Total time of both monologues should not exceed four minutes or be less than two. Email Jeffryn Stephens: jstephens353@nc.rr.com to make an appointment or to make alternate arrangements if neither of these days and times are available for you. Musicians are also welcome in Masters and can substitute a piece of music for one of their monologues.
