Classes Overview

During the traditional school year, Young People’s Performing Company offers 2-3 sessions of performance-oriented classes for children and youth ages 5-14. High school students are invited to audition for the Masters Company. Class sessions range from 7-16 weeks, culminating with a production weekend of two performances. Production weeks include one or two extra rehearsals.

Plays chosen both for classes and for the Masters Company have included theatre classics, adaptations of culturally diverse folktales, original plays written especially for the company by the director or by students, and material developed through improvisation. Emphasis is given to the development of characters, through which comes a better understanding of the motivations and needs of others. The process of performance helps to build confidence and group interaction. The goal is a quality ensemble theatre in which cooperation and consideration for individual talents and needs are essential.
